STRUCTURE: The deadline for the drawing up of revised Barnet and Chase Farm reconfiguration proposals has been extended.

The contentious reconfiguration, which proposed closing A&E and consultant-led maternity services at Chase Farm Hospital, was halted by health secretary Andrew Lansley on March 10. The plan had been approved by NHS London but objected to by local MPs and campaigners.

The Secretary of State had originally said NHS London, the trust, GPs and local authorities would have a month to come up with new plans.

A DH spokeswoman said on Tuesday, 5 April: “The health secretary recently agreed an extension, where proposals will be worked up by 19 April 2011.

“Support from expert policy advisers will be available as required,” she added.
