FINANCE: Bedford Hospital Trust could end the year with a £2.2m deficit if it does not cut back, the board heard.

A report from the finance committee highlighted a deficit of £0.95m after seven months - despite income being ahead of plan. “The trust needs to secure £3m of additional interventions to safely turn around the current forecast of a £2.2m deficit,” the report said, adding that both pay and non-pay expenditure was above plan.

Ernst and Young are helping with the trust’s transformation plans. The finance committee also said it recognised “the impact of lack of management information and the need for more awareness in business planning of implications for activity”.
