PERFORMANCE: Bedford Hospital has been clear of MRSA cases for over a year.
The trust recorded just one MRSA bacteraemia infection in 2011 (at the beginning of April) – a reduction of 96% in five years. Clostridium difficile (C Diff) infections also plummeted by 92% over the same period.
Chief executive Joe Harrison said: “This is fantastic achievement and a testament to the commitment of staff right across the organisation to preventing hospital acquired infections. Any infection is one too many and we will continue to work hard to further reduce infection rates. We are also focusing further on the prevention of hospital acquired pressure ulcers with a zero tolerance approach to both.”
