The former executive chairman of Monitor Bill Moyes writes exclusively in HSJ today (17 February) about the opportunities facing the NHS following the government’s plans to reform the service.

Mr Moyes writes that, with GPs at the heart of commissioning, there is now a real opportunity to provide better services centred around patient preferences and needs.

He also comments that the four national health organisations and regulators, working with the Department of Health, must grasp the chance to create new conditions that will allow innovation and improvement in the delivery of health services, and that competition can be the central driver of this change.
