STRUCTURE: Clinical commissioning groups across Pennine Lancashire are discussing potential mergers, the primary care trust’s chief executive has reported.

Graham Burgess’s latest board report stated that the final size and configuration of the Clinical Commissioning Groups must be determined by the end of October 2011 to allow the six months to configure shadow budgets for April 2012.

He added: “There is a desire for the number of CCGs in Lancashire to reduce from the current thirteen. Across Pennine Lancashire there are discussions between CCGs to debate potential mergers and federations.”
