There’s no doubt former United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust chief executive Gary Walker is a controversial figure. However, End Game wonders whether we’ve not fully appreciated the scale of his achievements.

Tweeting ahead of a BBC programme he featured in recently, Mr Walker pondered whether “one person’s whistleblower is another’s enemy”. He followed this observation by namechecking US whistleblowers Edward Snowden, who has been forced to seek asylum in Russia, and Bradley Manning, who has since been imprisoned for leaking thousands of classified documents.

Perhaps we should re-evaluate Mr Walker’s standing in the grand scheme of global whistleblowers -  after all his career in NHS management has indeed come to a premature end, and some in the NHS establishment might wish he lived out his days in Latin America or Russia.
