Fame at last for the King’s Fund’s esteemed chief economist John Appleby.

The Irish Sun has run a short piece based on Professor Appleby’s findings that 40 per cent of girls born in Ireland in 2013 would live to be 100. The figure will hit 60 per cent of girls born in 2060, the paper reports.

The paper’s website ran an enormous picture of Professor Appleby with “boffin…” written underneath it, next to a sidebar containing pictures of a young lady with her legs splayed and David Beckham’s sister spilling out of a dress.

The Irish Sun even described him as a “scientist”.

End Game would like to take this opportunity to warmly congratulate Professor Appleby for – at last – elevating the profession of health economics to the status of a proper science.
