When HSJ naughtily put together a joke piece for April Fool’s Day, we thought we had made it implausible enough to be self-evidently a joke.
Chortling to ourselves, we ran a story stating that ministers would have to tell the truth in future, as they were to be subjected to a statutory duty of candour.
But some readers had grown a little too used us writing about ludicrous and obviously unworkable policies floating out of Richmond House, and were taken in.
Better still, more than one reader got the joke, but thought the giveaway was a reference in the piece to a DH official named Ian Dodge.
“I have to ask if Ian Dodge’s deputy is Debbie Duckanddive?” asked one online commenter.
Mr Dodge is of course a real person, in charge of taking health policy to infinity and beyond.
But with his million dollar smile, lantern jaw, impressive eyebrows and superhero stature, readers may be forgiven for getting Mr Dodge mixed up with an actual fictional character, Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story.
