FINANCE: NHS Bolton’s overspend on general hospital services rose by more than £2m in December to £3.4m, its latest finance report shows.

At the end of November 2011 NHS Bolton was showing a £1.1m in-year overspend on general hospital services. At the end of December this had risen to £3.4m.

Its forecast overspend on those services for the full financial year rose from £1.6m to £2.6m over the same period.

“A significant programme of work is underway to control secondary care expenditure and progress is being performance managed through the Locality Executive Team,” its December finance report stated. “The expectation remains that the impact of this programme will result in a reduction of forecast overspends over the remainder of the financial year.”
