WORKFORCE: Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust is in the middle of rolling out a ward safety checklist to improve patient monitoring and safety.

The latest board report from the trusts’ safety and quality committee said it had been shown short film featuring an interview with a patient whose husband died last year following an undiagnosed bilateral pulmonary embolism.

The report said: “This film and a second one featuring the ward round… have been commissioned to support the roll-out of the ward safety checklist, which has already taken place on most of the wards in the Barry Building, HIV medicine and gynaecology.

“Obstetrics are currently designing their version of the checklist. Rollout at the Princess Royal Hospital is the next phase of the project,” it added.
