PERFORMANCE: Buckinghamshire commissioners are struggling to meet the 18 week referral to treatment target.

A primary care trust performance report from November says “performance against this national waiting time standard has declined steadily since April for patients on an admitted care pathway.

“Latest available information (for September 2011) shows that 87.5% of NHS  Buckinghamshire patients were treated within the 18 week timeframe.”

The main specialties breaching the standard were trauma and orthopaedics, plastic surgery and ophthalmology.

Although the indicator was expected to recover in October, “this milestone was not achieved”.

“A revised trajectory has been agreed with Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust… treated (including those that have breached) is increasing and the number of patients waiting for admitted treatment is decreasing steadily.”
