PERFORMANCE: Calderdale and Huddersfield Foundation Trust is taing action to improve its performance on fractured neck of femur operations to ensure patients get into theatre quickly. The trust has a target of treating 85 per cent of patients within 36 hours but its performance this year is only 66 per cent.

Less than half of patients were operated on within this time in the last three months of 2012 but performance improved to 74.5 per cent in January. Extra trauma lists are being put on, with additional operating at weekend considered, and neck of femur patients are being put first on lists to ensure their operations go ahead. But the flow of neck of femur patients is unpredictable and bad weather can lead to sudden peaks.
