FINANCE: Cambridge University Hospitals Foundation Trust was £6.6m in deficit at the end of September - better than its expected £9.6m deficit at that time, the board of governors heard.
“Whilst this is encouraging it’s not a strong enough performance to breakeven at the year end,” a report to the November meeting said. Likely scenarios range from a £6m end-of-year deficit to one of just £0.4m.
The trust has identified over £33m in cost improvements as it battles to improve its finances, but another £11m would be needed to achieve breakeven. Accenture has been appointed to support the turnaround team.
