PERFORMANCE: The number of patients who had been waiting more than a year for treatment at Central Manchester fell again in July, but remained the highest of any Greater Manchester provider, commissioner board papers show.

NHS Greater Manchester’s latest performance report states: “Central Manchester has the highest number of 52 week waiters in GM, although numbers have dropped from 505 in May 2011, 92 in June 2012 and 55 in July 2012.

“Weekly meetings are taking place to monitor the numbers waiting against weekly trajectories. The trust has explored a number of options to ensure that the backlog of patients is reduced as quickly and safely as possible. The waiters will be cleared by end of September in line with the agreed Action Plan and arrangements are in place to detect waiters at an earlier stage.”
