WORKFORCE: The acting chief executive of Colchester Hospital University Foundation Trust, under investigation by police over allegations of cancer data manipulation, has announced her resignation.

Sue Barnett was given the role following the resignation of former chief executive Gordon Coutts in December. The following day NHS England found the trust’s cancer services were “unsafe” in five areas.

Ms Barnett’s resignation will take effect from mid-March.

The trust has appointed Kim Hodgson as new intermin chief executive and will shortly begin advertising for a permanent replacement.

Ms Barnett said: “Now that Kim Hodgson has been appointed and solid transition arrangements can be confirmed, I feel able to explore new opportunities for myself outside of the trust.

“Alongside the challenges of the last 12 months, I am proud to have been involved in delivering many positive changes for the benefit of patients during my time here, such as the extension of our A&E department, the opening of a new ward block and the development of new state-of-the-art radiotherapy department.”
