Pity poor Katie Myler. Health secretary Andy Burnham’s special adviser and former GMTV correspondent is not only charged with explaining to the press the subtle differences between a target and a patient entitlement, she has also been lumbered with tricky media relations much closer to home.
Her father is Colin Myler, editor of the News of the World, which picked the weekend before Mr Burnham’s launch of his big care white paper to switch from Labour to the Tories. Among the reasons listed in the editor’s leader column were the increase in NHS managers, poor cancer survival rates and hospital infections. Katie’s bosses, End Game is reliably informed, are not impressed.
