The Department of Health has been economising on its art collection - although whether by accident or as part of a planned recession busting measure remains unclear.

Health minister Mike O’Brien is having to suffer the indignity of working under another man’s choice of wall decoration. He is occupying the office vacated in 2006 by Lord Warner, and the pictures have not been changed since he left.

“The art work in my room remains that which you selected, so your legacy lives after you - for better or, as some of us might think, for worse,” he told Lord Warner at a conference last week, suggesting he is not entirely a fan of the display.

End Game was unfortunately unable to gain access to the inner sanctum of Richmond House to give a valuation of the said work, and thus it remains unknown whether we are talking Turner or a picture of a tennis player scratching her bottom.
