Despite being a firm supporter of evidence based intervention, international doyen of health inequality Sir Michael Marmot appears to also believe in Taoism.

At a seminar in London last month, Sir Michael’s recent report on reducing health inequality - Fair Society, Healthy Lives - received universal support from other speakers and his audience.

He said: “The first thing I was thinking after hearing such positive comments was that I’ll probably go out and find my bicycle’s been nicked.

“Well if it’s being used, I guess, that’s a good thing,” he said, proving he’s a true public health enthusiast.

“Somebody once stole my bicycle helmet and I remember a colleague said it might have saved somebody’s life,” he added.

End Game was equally impressed that someone born in 1945 was still using pedal power as their main form of transport. Wish we could all say the same, ahem…
