A representative group for clinical commissioning groups has appointed two co-chairs of its leadership group.

NHS Clinical Commissioners has been formed jointly by the NHS Confederation, NHS Alliance and National Association of Primary Care, and is seeking to recruit CCGs as members.

The developing organisation has so far been led by the Alliance, NAPC and Confederation’s senior leaders.

It was announced on Monday that Blackpool CCG chief clinical officer Amanda Doyle and Bassetlaw CCG chair Steve Kell would be the co-chairs of its leadership group.

They are expected increasingly to represent NHS Clinical Commissioners publicly.

The leadership group is in charge of the direction of NHSCC’s work programme, and is intended to ensure that the organisation remains member led.

Dr Doyle said: “We are delighted that we have been elected to take on this role by our colleagues within the leadership group.”

Dr Kell said: “We are determined to ensure that the experience of the frontline is heard nationally.

“NHSCC is led by its members and at this important stage in its development it is right that we step up and work with the organisation’s interim president [and NHS Alliance chair] Michael Dixon and interim chair [and NAPC chair] Charles Alessi to guide its future success.”

Dr Alessi said: “We are all committed to the on-going success of NHSCC and are pleased that as Co-Chairs of our leadership group, Steve and Amanda will ensure that the direct CCG experience and voice will guide the on-going development of this most important organisation.”
