STRUCTURE: Services for adult patients with soft tissue sarcomas are to be provided at two centres in the South West Peninsula - rather than being concentrated on just one site.

Plans had originally been drawn up for a one site solution but new guidance from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence has stressed peer review support and lessened the emphasis on having fewer larger surgical sites.

This has opened the way for a partnership option with services provided at both Plymouth Hospital and the Royal Devon and Exeter.

The specialised commissioning group in the area will develop a network which will offer training and advice to GPs, pathologists and general surgeons, the NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly board heard.
