COMMERCIAL: Coventry primary care trust is tendering for providers to take over services at two GP surgeries, which it had previously been providing directly.
The commissioner had directly provided the Anchor Centre, for homeless and “vulnerably housed” people, and the Meridian practice, for asylum seekers and refugees.
However Stephen Jones, chief executive of the Arden PCT cluster, said that the Department of Health’s transforming community services programme required the PCT to divest itself of all its provider arms.
The chief executive’s report to November’s board meeting said that the PCT is tendering the services, and short listed bidders had been invited to apply.
A recommended bidder was scheduled to be identified on 17 November.
Mr Jones said: “In order not to delay the tendering process and allow eg staff consultation for TUPE transfers to begin, the board is asked to delegate powers to the chief executive and chair to consider the formal approval of the tender award.”
