WORKFORCE: Mike Taylor, the current chair of NHS Cumbria, has been appointed the new chair of Cumbria Partnership Foundation Trust.

He will take over from Bryan Betterton who is retiring in October following eight as trust chair.

Mr Taylor’s leadership experience spans the public, private and voluntary sector and includes a lengthy career with Shell in the UK and overseas, and ten years as an appointments commissioner with the NHS Appointments Commission.

He has also chaired Cumbria’s Third Sector Network and is currently chairman of St John Ambulance Cumbria.

He is set to resign as chair of NHS Cumbria on October 5 and will work alongside Mr Betterton until his new role starts officially on November 1.

Stephen Dalton, chief executive of Cumbria Partnership FT, said: “Mike is joining us at a crucial time for the NHS both locally and nationally.

“The NHS in Cumbria has made significant advances over the last ten years in bringing more care closer to where people live.

“However, we are facing an unprecedented growth in demand with long term conditions such as diabetes and dementia set to rocket and we know that money will be very tight for the next few years.

“We are delighted to have recruited a chair of Mike’s calibre.”
