FINANCE: Draft accounts for 2010-11 show that the primary care trust finished the year overspent by £5.9m.

The figure represents a deficit of 0.68 per cent on a turnover of £873m, according to an NHS North West board report. Cumbria was the only PCT in the North West to record a full year deficit for 2010-11, it states.

According to the same report, in 2011-12 Cumbria plans to underspend by a total of £4.1m, on an initial revenue resource limit of £869m.
