It was reassuring to hear a politician praise the work of GPs and acknowledge the core values of general practice: the unique relationship between GP and patient; integrated, continuous care and lifelong care, writes Steve Field

David Cameron's words will have resonated with many doctors and we were particularly pleased that he adopted the Royal College of GPs' view on polyclinics - ie that they will work in certain areas of the country but one size will not fit all.

Junior health minister Lord Darzi is also using our language in his review of the NHS, which shows that our messages are hitting home.

In the next few weeks, we launch a follow-up to our Roadmap document, demonstrating how the federated model of GPs working together will deliver real improvements for patients.
