A charity that supports local entrepreneurs has insisted that the NHS must remain as an all-encompassing healthcare system but social organisations could do more to provide services traditionally offered by the NHS.

Cliff Prior, the chief executive of UnLtd, discussed the effects of opening up core parts of the NHS to boost competition and warned about the potential damage such action could cause in the latest edition of An Interview With …, a monthly podcast series by The Social Investment Business.

Mr Prior reiterated the importance of social enterprises not trying to offer every service possible, but instead opting to consider how their expertise could be used effectively by healthcare providers.

He cited UnLtd’s experiences of creating a global network sharing information about social ventures across the world, revealing that international trade is still an unexplored market for social enterprises.
