STRUCTURE: The trust has won a contract to take over the running of alcohol and drugs recovery services in Cumbria from 1 July 2012, it reported last week.

The current service, which is put out for tender every three years, is run by several agencies in the county and coordinated by Cumbria Drug and Alcohol Action Team.

A statement released by GMW following the close of the tender said it had been chosen “because of its innovative approach to developing an integrated recovery service and proven experience in running effective alcohol and drugs services”.

GMW, which already runs substance misuse services across Greater Manchester as well as parts of Lancashire, will take over the running of community and prison based adult alcohol and drugs recovery services in Cumbria from 1 July 2012, following a three month implementation period.

Staff working in existing alcohol and drugs services in Cumbria have the opportunity to move across and continue to work in this area for GMW.
