PERFORMANCE: Halton and St Helens PCT failed to hit a target to ensure 85 per cent of all cancer patients are treated within two months of urgent GP referral in April, show PCT cluster board papers.

The PCT hit the target in previous months but fell down in April with 84.6 per cent of cancer patients treated within the two-month timeframe - an underperformance of 0.38 per cent.

“This was due to eight patient breaches out of 53 patients treated,” says the performance report. “These breaches occurred due to patient choice, patients requiring further treatment, complex pathways and late referrals between trusts.”
