COMMERCIAL: Business and technology service company Logica is to deliver an integrated patient care record system for NHS Isle of Wight.

The PCT, which runs acute, mental health, prison, mental health, ambulance and community services on the island, has been given special permission by the Department of Health to remain as provider and commissioner until 2013.

According to the NHS Isle of Wight press release, Logica’s system will “integrate all the information held in ten different core NHS systems on the island, to support emergency and urgent care patient information requirements as the patient moves through the different stages and areas of care.

“Information from core organisational systems will be aggregated and securely delivered for use by clinicians as a single view of a patient’s full record, improving speed and accuracy, improving communications, avoiding duplicated work and reducing paperwork.   This will improve the patient experience, reducing the number of occasions that the same questions are asked.

“Built using Logica’s e-CareLogic solution, which has already been proven in the world class University College Hospitals London NHS Foundation Trust, NHS Isle of Wight will aim to improve care whilst making better use of existing assets and patient data, both from a clinical and patient level costing perspective.  The first areas planned to benefit will be the medical assessment unit, with the full system planned to be operational at hospital ward level at St. Mary’s Hospital, Newport by early 2012.”
