FINANCE: Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust achieved a surplus of £4.6m in the year to October, £1.3m ahead of plan.
Board papers for November, obtained by HSJ under the Freedom of Information Act, say the trust is on track to exceed its full year surplus plan of £3.5m.
Clinical income was £2m ahead of plan over the year to date, with the main NHS Hampshire contract identified as a “key driver”.
“The trust has now exceed the Hampshire primary care trust contract cap by £3.3m”, the papers say, although other shortfalls meant that income was on plan overall.
However there was a reduction in “other income” following a review of anticipated income relating to road traffic accidents, which was cut by £0.5m.
Drugs spending was £600,000 over the budgeted levels in month, although half that sum was recovered through additional income from commissioners.
Clinical Supplies were £1.5m over the year to date plan, relating to the higher than planned levels of activity.
Non pay spend was £4.7m over plan in the year to date, “some of which is directly recovered through income not constrained by the capped contract.”
