STRUCTURE: Five GPs have been selected to lead the clinical commissioning group for west Hampshire.
They are: Dr Sarah Schofield of North Baddesley Surgery, who will chair the group; Dr Nigel Sylvester of Friarsgate Practice, Winchester; Dr Tim Thurston of New Milton Health Centre; Dr Simon Goodison of Blackthorn Health Centre; and Dr Jim Rose of Derrydown Clinic, Andover.
The group will now begin to work alongside NHS Hampshire, supported by the executive director for West Hampshire, Heather Hauschild.
They will commission and manage services including those at the main acute hospitals in the area: Southampton General Hospital; Royal Hampshire County Hospital; Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital; Salisbury District Hospital; and Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
From April 2013, the board will take on the responsibility for commissioning healthcare for the 536,643 people living in the area.
The CCG is in the process of taking responsibility for £467,000 of local NHS funding from Hampshire primary care trust, which will enable them to commission acute, community and prescribing services.
Dr Schofield said: “I am really pleased that we have elected five local GPs to drive the new health agenda forward in this area. These are busy and exciting times for myself and the other newly elected GPs.”
