FINANCE: Harrogate and District Foundation Trust had a surplus of £1.7m after the first eight months of the financial year - £1.2m less than planned.

A main issue affected its performance was the cost of medical staff to cover vacancies and sickness, especially in the A&E department. This contributed to overspending of £1.1m across the trust. The council of governors was told that action had been taken late last year and the financial position had started to improve.
