FINANCE: A primary care trust is proposing to save half a million pounds over the next two years by reducing Directed Enhanced Services payments to GPs.

NHS Havering plans to stop the payments for additional services to eight practices a year from April.

DES payments are agreed nationally and include measures like recording ethnicity or extending opening hours.

The PCT’s QIPP planning document envisaged a “reduction in [the] level of additional sessions provided by GP surgeries where the capacity is already being accommodated at the Polyclinic.”

Another document presented to the board’s January meeting said the plan represented “the sector view”.
