WORKFORCE:  Heart of England Foundation Trust has appointed Lord Philip Hunt as its new chair following a formal governors’ consultative council meeting last month.

Lord Hunt, who has been working with the trust since October 2010 as a non executive director, took up post on 1 April.

He is a former chief executive of the NHS Confederation, had two spells as a health minister in the last government and was chair of the National Patient Safety Agency from 2004-05.

He is currently president of the Royal Society of Public Health and chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Primary Care and Public Health.

Roy Shields, lead governor and chair of the governors’ appointment committee, said: “We are delighted that Lord Hunt will be joining the trust as its new chairman.  His vast healthcare experience and passion for local engagement will ensure that each of the trust’s hospitals remains strong within the communities it serves. He will prove a great asset to the organisation.”

Lord Hunt takes over from Clive Wilkinson who is retiring after 10 years as chair.
