FINANCE: Heatherwood and Wexham Park NHS Foundation Trust ran at a £1.3m deficit in November, latest figures show.

Board papers for December show the figure was better than the £2.1m deficit expected for the month in a reforecast submitted to Monitor in early November.

The trust has overspent in every month of 2011-12. November’s figure follows £1.6m and £1.8m deficits in October and September respectively.

Staffing levels are on the rise, increasing from 3,525 to 3,561 in November. “This is due to increases in permanent staffing, largely due to the new contingent of new substantive nursing staff. This will lead to a reduction in temporary staff following completion of

induction programmes,” the papers say. There is an “urgent need” to recruit more staff to the trust’s scheduled care division.

The trust is forecasting a year-end deficit of between £12m and £18m.
