PERFORMANCE: NHS Herefordshire remains significantly far away from achieving the target for 80 per cent of stroke patients’ time to be spent on a stroke unit.
It suffers from geographical isolation coupled with the comparatively small nature of the local provider trust, Hereford Hospitals. The service is currently provided by one consultant and is therefore culnerable when he is absent.
The PCT has set targets for delivery:
- Time on a stroke unit: 70 per cent to be achieved by June 2011 and 80 per cent to be achieved from July 2011.
- TIA assessment within 24 hours: 50 per cent to be achieved by June 2011 and 60 per cent to be achieved from July 2011.
