While hospitals which are publicly criticised over individual cases should be able to respond, this should be done in a professional and sensitive way. Whittington Hospital medical director Dr James Malone-Lee failed to do this.

Why did Dr MaloneLee make insinuations of racism against Rose Addis which were later repudiated by his chief executive?

If a sick, confused, 94-year-old patient were to fall short of generally accepted standards of behaviour, shouldn't a caring hospital try to humour her, or does Dr Malone-Lee believe that she should be punished by being left untended?
