Health secretary Alan Milburn has announced key appointments to the new Food Standards Agency. Its chair will be Professor Sir John Krebs, former chief executive of the Natural Environment Research Council and a Royal Society research professor at Oxford Universitys zoology department. His deputy will be Suzi Leather, chair of Exeter and District Community trust. She has worked in consumer representation for 20 years and was an independent assessor on nutritional inequalities for the Acheson inquiry into health inequalities. The agencys chief executive will be Geoffrey Podger, head of the joint food safety and standards group of the Department of Health and Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
