Retired education adviser Angela Jones, formerly chair of Liverpool Cardiothoracic Centre trust, has been appointed as new chair of Alder Hey. She took up the post on Tuesday.

She replaces acting chair Judith Greensmith, who remains chair of Liverpool health authority. The trust board has said it takes full responsibility for the scandal. Professor Helen Carty and Hilary Clarke have resigned as trust non-executive directors.

Professor Michael Orme's secondment as North West region's director of training and education has been suspended. Tony Bell remains acting chief executive at the trust following the suspension of chief executive Hilary Rowland, while trust chief laboratory scientific officer Jacqueline Waring has been suspended as has Karen England, project manager for booked admissions at Warrington Hospital trust.
