The three ambulance trusts serving Avon, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire will become one after their merger proposals were approved by the Department of Health last week. The proposals to merge services into one trust, coterminous with the government region, were developed before the national review of ambulance services proposed plans to reduce the 31 ambulance services in England to 11.
