The chief executive of the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases trust said she was 'thrilled' to learn that the trust would gain an extra star after a mistake by data collectors was uncovered.

An error by contractors working for the Department of Health on staff opinion surveys meant the trust was only given two stars in July. When the full data on the surveys came through to the trust the anomaly was picked up and the DoH re-examined the performance indicators, awarding a third star to the small specialist trust.

Chief executive Nicola Carmichael said: 'We are delighted - thrilled. We heard last week and it has really given everybody a boost.'
