The British Medical Association has attacked a government decision to stage this year's pay award for armed forces doctors. John Ferguson, chair of the BMA armed forces remuneration committee, said: 'The effect of the staging is a below inflation increase. This will do nothing to raise morale.'
The armed forces pay review body recommended 5.2 per cent and 4.2 per cent increases for medical and dental officers, depending on rank, with extra cash for dentists. The government said the phasing was 'in line with policy on public sector pay'.
