A senior Department of Health medical officer criticised by the Bristol inquiry will not face any disciplinary action following an independent inquiry into his actions.According to the Kennedy report, Dr Peter Doyle placed a dossier of evidence sent to him by Bristol whistleblower Dr Stephen Bolsin in a filing cabinet without reading it.For more than four months Dr Doyle has been on extended leave while a panel of independent assessors conducted an investigation.Health secretary Alan Milburn said the assessors 'concluded that while it is possible with hindsight to question Dr Doyle's decision not to examine the detailed data. . any criticism has to be balanced against the prompt and positive action he did take'.
