Bupa has announced a rise of almost 20 per cent in pre-tax profits on the back of unprecedented growth in the number of NHS patients being treated in its hospitals.NHS cases made up 6 per cent of its patients last year.The number of patients paying for their own treatment also increased. In total, Bupa's surplus before tax and finance charges jumped by 19 per cent to 107.9m.As well as providing additional services to NHS hospitals, Bupa also opened its first diagnostic and treatment centre in Redwood, Surrey.
