Outsourcing specialist Capita has bought healthcare information firm CHKS for £11.6m.

Capita last year won a£60m three year contract to run the NHS Choices website www.nhs.uk.

CHKS sells coding, data and performance management services to hospital trusts and commissioners and made a profit of£1.6m last year on a turnover of£8m.

Capita Group chief executive Paul Pindar said: "This acquisition will add important new expertise to Capita's range of health services and effectively complements the work we are doing for NHS Choices, in developing the way the NHS connects with the public. The deal also further demonstrates Capita's commitment to, and investment in, the health sector."
