Dame Rennie Fritchie, commissioner for public appointments, started out as a human resources and management consultant.
She was chair of South Western (later South and West) regional health authority in the early 1990s, at the sharp end of the market reforms. She resigned from the RHA in 1996 and has since chaired the Pennell Initiative on health for women in later life, held a visiting professorship in creative leadership at York University, and been a member of the General Medical Council.
