Private nursing home tycoon Dr Chai Patel has been awarded a CBE in the Queen's birthday honours. The award for 'services to the development of social care policies' comes six weeks after it was revealed that he had given a five-figure sum to the New Health Network, a think-tank launched with high-level government backing.
He is also a leading light in the Continuing Care Conference, a pressure group for elderly care.
England's retiring chief nursing officer, Yvonne Moores, was made a dame. And NHS Executive finance director Colin Reeves was awarded a CBE.
Full details of the honours list will appear next week.
