Essex Rivers Healthcare trust needs to ensure junior doctors are adequately supervised and are not working outside their ability, according to a clinical governance review published last week by the Commission for Health Improvement. While trust staff are 'committed and caring', CHI says there is 'evidence to suggest junior doctors are not sufficiently supervised in emergency work, resulting in significant risk'.The stroke and maternity wards were praised for their patient-centred care. But the report raised concerns that staff do not receive feedback in things that have not gone well, making it difficult to identify trends and learn from mistakes.
