Wales will have a children's commissioner to cover children in care services regulated by the Care Standards Bill, which is now passing through Parliament. The government agreed to table an amendment to the bill to create a commissioner as UK ministers and the Welsh Assembly published their responses to the inquiry into child abuse in north Wales. Welsh health secretary Jane Hutt said everybody who read the report into child abuse in children's homes in north Wales had been 'shocked and moved', and the Assembly was 'wholly committed to ensuring that such events do not happen again'.
