You are right to argue that trust boards should adopt a positive attitude to open board meetings (Comment, 19 March).

But sadly, experience shows that very few people attend these. If we are serious about consulting the public, we should do it professionally through patient councils, focus panels, open days, reports in local papers etc. It would be a pity if anyone were to use open board meetings as an excuse for not having an effective two-way communications process.
