The High Court has awarded compensation of £140,000 for stress and overwork to a nurse employed by Hastings and Rother trust, saying the trust had 'grossly dishonoured' its promise that she could gradually ease back into her ward sister role after having a baby.Trust chief executive Geoff Haynes said initiatives such as an employee assistance scheme offering a 24-hour helpline had been introduced since Jane Witham suffered a mental breakdown in 1997.She sued the trust for negligence, having built up 148 hours'overtime in just over a month.Mr Haynes said: 'While we are disappointed that the verdict in Mrs Witham's case went against the trust, we will be looking very carefully at the judge's findings to make sure we learn from this unfortunate case.'
